National Night Out - Community Block Party

Since 1998, we have participated in the National Night Out Against Crime event.  It is by far our most heavily attended event.  It attracts thousands of residents throughout the course of the night. Our event, a "block party", is held at the Marcus Plaza, Shop Rite parking lot, 624 West Main Street the first Tuesday in August. The entire community is invited completely free of charge.

It is hosted by the Norwich Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit and includes various fun activities for both children and adults.  Police and Fire vehicles and equipment are on display and demonstrations are preformed.  Hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, and soda all donated by various businesses in our community and provided free to the people in attendance.  Clown City provides the a clown and face-painter both of which are very popular among the young children in attendance.  Nothing but positive feedback is heard  from the community in response to this event.  We are always asked how others can be involved in the next year's event.  Media coverage includes television news as well as newspaper, and a radio station remote onsite.

This has proven to be a community event that has brought people and neighborhoods from all over the city together for a fun-filled evening.
